Anise (Aniseed) (Pimpinella anisum) Abbr: Ani
An annual herb that grows to less than a metre in height. It has delicate leaves and white flowers.

Odour: Warm, spicy-sweet.
Colour: Colourless to pale yellow.
Source: Seeds.
Method of Extraction: Steam distillation.
Properties: Antibacterial, Antiseptic, Antispasmodic, Carminative, Diuretic, Emmenagogic, Expectorant, Lactogenic, Stimulant, Uterine.
Actions: Calming, promotes lactation.
Circulatory: Cardiac fatigue, cardiovascular, false angina, fluid retention, rheumatism.
Digestion: Colic, flatulence, intestinal cramps, nausea.
Endocrine: Menopause, pre-menstrual syndrome.
Genito-Urinary: Fluid retention, menstrual pain, pre-menstrual syndrome, uterine disorders.
Immune: Colds, flu.
Lymphatic: Lymph congestion, water retention.
Muscular: Cramps, muscle pain.
Nervous: Impotence, nervous indigestion.
Reproduction: Impotence, promotes lactation.
Respiratory: Asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, cough, whooping cough.
